I had another go at water training with him I got him to hop in and out of the paddling pool (empty) ! Then I moved it to where we have a hose, and I put a tiny bit of water in, hop in and out, then I added a bit more in out, add water in out ect ... I got it 3 inches full maybe?
I then (unfortunately) when too far too fast and he was reluctant to go back in (he was happy at 3 inches) so I put it away (after treating "around the pool"), fortunately Wilson doesn't hold grudges, is very forgiving and is pretty much fearless (typical cavie) so he should be fine if I get him in it empty in the next session before filling it to the 3 inches. Bethany x I've been working on toy motivation with Wilson, starting my getting a toy (rope/tug) and in an excited voice encouraging him to get it, then moving it in and out of his reach, for a few seconds before letting him get it and playing tug.
Then I do the get it but instead of letting him get it (this is after quite a few tug sessions) ask/lure him over the jump, and reward. Then again but for a few more jumps and a A-frame/Dogwalk. I even ran almost a full course (well our course which is missing more than half the equipment! I also was using treats and I asked him to do it 3 times, he's doing great, really pleased he's getting the long jump (I made one) and the dogwalk/a-frame (again I made it and it's kinda a cross between the two for now). And he ran better for me than for my sister although he was pretty good with her! I then ran out of treats and he still ran a half-course (or half our course) for a cuddle/attention! Overall I think he will run with no treats/toys in the ring with reward after the full run. And that he'll run for a toy, which is just great. I'm ordering toy's today I hope. Bethany x One of the thing's I want to be able to use in training is toys. It mean's if I want to do Agility, 1. I don't need a treat bag 2. I don't have to worry about how many treats he's had and 3. I think he'll run faster for a toy.
So I started tug today, I (or my sister) started doing a "crazy" voice and moving the toy around and basically acting crazy! And he tugged, tugged & tugged! I also did a few throw's with a ball! So I'm just working on getting him to play/tug, not work for the toy straight away! I've also been doing "swimming training" which is going well, we achieved standing on a plank of wood in the pool (it was dry on the wood) with the pool full! * I'm going to order him a "bungee faux rabbit toy" it has a hoop with bungee in it with a tube of fake rabbit skin on. And a "fleecy ring thing" which is a bit like the pompom but it's a ring and smaller - the pompom wasn't a success overall (I should have checked the size) as it was too big really! * The "pool" is a paddling pool and really shallow. Bethany Roche x Well - Agility training is going really good, I made a ramp (for work on the dogwalk) today a small incline (pretty long) on to a chair and then up the ramp onto a board (over/balanced on chairs) and turn round and down! Really pleased he was running up and down (I checked it was safe don't worry!) Holly had a go too! My only issue is we are having issues with contacts, he races down and keeps going instead of "pausing" so he hit's the contact ... I was looking at "Running-Contacts - aka RC's !!! However apparently it's really hard to train - I'm not sure what to do I might keep trying with the 2on2off (non RC) method, but I don't want to lose the momentum or anything - I'll have to try and see! Will keep you updated! We're doing good on most of the other things! His "bounce" is amazing now!!!
